Since 2019, student activists from Green New Deal @ UC San Diego and faculty have called upon UC San Diego to teach climate education. In 2024, this call for action became a reality. The Jane Terranes Climate Education Requirement, the first of its kind around the world, seeks to educate and equip UC San Diego students with the knowledge to combat the global challenge of climate change. In memory of Jane Teranes
Jane Terranes was a climate champion and Scripps professor who passed away in July of 2022. Her tenacious work in climate change research and education inspired all those around her and will continue to do so through the UC San Diego's JTCCER. This is in tribute of her.
